Award-winning country act Confederate Railroad is performing a benefit concert the Main Street Armory in Rochester on Friday, February 8th with a portion of proceeds from ticket sales benefiting the victims and their families of the West Webster Fire Department tragedy. Several regional businesses have stepped up to sponsor the event as well, including: Batavia Downs, Verizon Wireless Zone, Marina Dodge, Classy Chassy, Grease Lightning, Superior Lubricants, Baskin Livestock, Dival Safety, Dimarco Group, Frank’s Plumbing, Atlantic Restaurant and Fenton Fire Truck.

West Webster Firefighters will be in attendance and “passing the boot”. Concert promoter Ben Thompson of Rocking Rattlesnake Entertainment hopes to raise thousands for the families of the victims of the Christmas Eve tragedy.

Supporting the show will be one Rochester’s best country bands, Closing Time and regional act Crows & Jays.

Confederate Railroad first rolled onto the national country music scene in the early 90s with its unique style and sound. Headed by founder and front man Danny Shirley, the former backup band for both David Allan Coe and Johnny Paycheck got their big break by signing with Atlantic Records. The singles, "Jesus and Mama" and "Queen of Memphis" went to the top of the charts. Three more huge hits followed, "Trashy Women", "When You Leave That Way You Can Never Go Back", and "She Never Cried". "Trashy" would lead to a Grammy nomination and become their signature song. That album with six hits and nearly three million sales brought Confederate the Academy of Country Music's Best New Group Award in 1993 as well as numerous nominations from the Country Music Association and the British Country Music Foundation. Their overall totals are 18 charted hits and five million albums sold.
