TRANSPORTATION/CONSTRUCTION INSPECTORS & ENGINEERS Central/Western New York ATT: INSPECTORS, SR. INSPECTORS, CHIEF INSPECTORS & RESIDENT ENGINEERS! Positions are also needed for an aggressive 2019 construction season. Position Overview We are seeking experienced Inspectors, Sr. Inspectors, Chief Inspectors and Resident Engineers to be responsible for construction/transportation inspection services on a variety of projects such as bridge/roadway/waterline repair & replacement in these NY State locations: Syracuse, Auburn, Fulton, Oneida, Utica, Herkimer, Cortland, Ithaca, Watertown, Rochester, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, Lewis County, Rennsselear & Binghamton. It is our intent to provide continued employment on temporary short-term assignments up to 1 year in length beginning March/April 2018. We provide personal safety equipment at no cost; some inclement weather gear and a clothing allowance for some work related items (ie steel toe boots). We reimburse work related mileage and tolls. We pay for work related certifications including paid time off to take test and cost of testing. Competitive hourly rate and a monthly cell phone stipend. Inspector Performs routine construction inspection services under the supervision of a Senior Inspector, Chief Inspector or Resident Engineer. Duties include taking and documenting detailed measurements for payment, supervising material testing, and notifying supervisor of issues and potential deviations from plans and specifications. This position requires full knowledge of company standards, plans, and New York State DOT specifications. The skills to demonstrate a basic familiarity with various common job site conditions, communication of project requirements to a contractor, and the ability to maintain a daily report while being familiar with plans and specifications are necessary. Applicants must have the ability to know when issues must be elevated to a supervisor. Some relevant construction observation experience is preferred. NICET Level II certification is preferred, or candidate must have a desire to pursue certification during term of employment. Associates Degree required; Bachelors' degree a plus. Sr. Inspector Working largely independently, performs routine construction inspection services under the supervision of a Chief Inspector or Resident Engineer. May be responsible for review and assignment of work for Inspector(s). Duties include taking and documenting detailed measurements for payment, supervising material testing, notifying supervisor of issues and potential deviations from plans and specifications, and working with the contractor to resolve minor issues without guidance. This position requires full knowledge of company standards, plans, and New York State DOT specifications. Qualified candidates will demonstrate familiarity and competence with various common job site conditions, will be able to clearly communicate project requirements to a contractor, and have the ability to resolve day-to-day disputes with a contractor, as well as have the experience required to know when to elevate an issue to their supervisor, all while maintaining detailed records of work and measurements and documentation for payment. Minimum 5 years related experience. NICET Level III certification or successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam required. Associates Degree required; Bachelor's Degree a plus. Chief Inspector Independently performs, tests, inspects and records technical work of routine complexity. Plans and coordinates field construction observation activities and reviews the work of and provides mentoring of other inspectors. Serves as a liaison between the Project Owner, Contractor, and Professional Engineer having project oversight. Reviews materials against specifications, prepares change orders, prepares and reviews contractor payment applications, and ensures that project records are being prepared in accordance with accepted standards. A Chief Inspector be able to fully express thoughts in writing and compile summary reports of other inspectors. Must have the ability to perform with the highest degree of independence, and effectiveness, in the field or in the office, within parameters established through the project plans and specifications. Must be fluent in the use of computers as a tool to aid construction observation. A Chief Inspector must be an effective communicator with good written communications skills. This position is often required to communicate the requirements of the project plans and specifications to the Contractor and negotiate impacts to the project from changed conditions. The Chief Inspector must also be familiar with corporate policies and safety requirements. Minimum 10 years of related experience required. NICET Level IV certification or a Professional Engineer's (PE) license is required. NICET Level III certification acceptable with relevant experience. Bachelor's Degree required. Associate's Degree acceptable with relevant experience. Resident Engineer Independently performs, tests, inspects and records technical work of the highest degree of complexity.
