Opening The Wilmot Cancer Institute (WCI) at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is seeking a collaborative and innovative leader to become the Director of the Hallmarks of Cancer/Cancer Biology research program and a Member of the WCI executive committee. Candidates for this position must hold a Ph.D. and/or an MD and must qualify for the rank of full professor with unlimited tenure at the University of Rochester. Desirable candidates will have a distinguished research record and a strong, active, and NCI-funded research program. S/he will have a demonstrated record of mentorship and collaboration. **Role of the Leader of the Hallmarks of Cancer Research Program** The Director of the **Hallmarks of Cancer**Research Program will have the unique opportunity to catalyze the research of a world-class team of scientists. The Leader will become a member of the executive team of the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and will work with the WCI senior leadership to develop and pursue a research agenda for the Cancer Institute, and build on the collaborations that have contributed to the university's great successes in cancer research. He or she will pursue an active research agenda. **Provide scientific leadership.** The Leader of the Cancer Genetics/Genomics Research Program will be a world-class scientist, with a thriving, active, NCI-funded research program. S/he should be highly curious and creative, pursuing a number of investigative pathways. S/he will provide scientific leadership through the strength of his or her research program and through the many channels of scientific investigation he or she pursues. **Catalyze research in both basic and translational research and develop funding streams.** A critical task will be to catalyze basic and translational research efforts. The Leader will work to create an environment that promotes outstanding research and achieves synergy among faculty members and researchers. S/he is expected to establish and nurture a climate that encourages and supports rigorous, innovative, and interdisciplinary scientific excellence. S/he will work closely with faculty and staff to plan and develop funding proposals and will coordinate efforts to attract major, multi-investigator-sponsored research programs. **Grow the national reputation of Cancer Genetics/Genomics research at URMC.** Fundamental to the Leader's success will be building the research group's external image and reputation. Communicating to the research community at-large, leading symposia and conferences, publishing research papers, and creating excitement about URMC, the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and the Hallmarks of Cancer Research Program, will be key to the Leader's role. S/he will also be charged with creating a strong network of relationships within the University, across the country, and on a worldwide basis with those engaged in related scientific research, to support the work of the research group. **Qualifications and Qualities** The ideal successful candidate will be an outstanding scientist and leader with the intellectual stature and vision to integrate and inspire a team of scientists with a sense of pride, purpose, and quality. The ideal candidate will be an imaginative and creative individual with demonstrated leadership and administrative ability, outstanding personal research accomplishment, and a documented record of funded research. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. and/or a MD, and should qualify for the rank of full Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
