The Nursing Simulation Specialist will be responsible for supervising and managing daily simulation lab operations; coordinating simulation education; developing pre-simulation activities; collaborates with faculty with conducting simulation and post simulation activities; simulation debriefing sessions; ensuring sustainability and growth of simulation activities; and maintaining professional development in simulation. The Nursing Simulation Specialist will also perform duties essential to the achievement of the departmental goals as well as participate in selected other phases of Nursing Department activities. 1. Qualifications: A. Educational Background: RN, Master's degree in Nursing required or be actively enrolled in a Nursing Masters Degree program of study. New York State Registered Nursing license required. B. Experience: Recent RN experience in the following areas required: medical-surgical hospital experience and home health experience. Simulated hospital laboratory experience preferred. Familiarity with budgeting and data collection, multi-media equipment, and operation of computers (MS Word) required. 2. Essential Functions: A. Creates realistic Nursing Laboratory patient unit environment for simulation sessions. B. Leads the planning and utilization of simulation in the Nursing program. C. Coordinates preparation of simulators and other equipment for conducting simulation D. Operates the patient simulator during simulation sessions. E. Solicits instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences. F. Sets-up and tears-down simulation labs for groups between daily simulation sessions. G. Conducts debriefing sessions following each simulation session. H. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment as needed for simulation sessions. I. Provide proper storage of and collaborate in maintenance and repair of simulation equipment. J. Maintains confidentiality of data, eg student simulation performance, student profiles, grades, clinical information, and budget salary information. K. Assists with ordering lab supplies, media programs, and equipment while maintaining inventory. This includes contact with outside simulation equipment vendors. L. Prepares computer medication carts for faculty and student use during practice, simulation sessions, and competency testing. M. Provides simulation instruction, practice supervision (1:1 and small group), and testing of nursing skills. N. Leads simulation curriculum development activities. O. Attends and participates in level team and department meetings for continuity of the program. P. Participates in departmental committee and accreditation committee work Q. Attends level team meetings when appropriate for continuity of the program. Nursing Laboratory and Media Center: A. Provides orientation and instruction to nursing students and nurse faculty of Nursing Lab simulation equipment and monitors use of equipment. B. Assists with coordinating multi-media and computer software materials related to simulations for all nursing students and faculty. C. Assists Education Technology Center (ETC) in filming of faculty simulations. D. Assists students, as needed, with minor simulation equipment malfunction, initiates routine simulation equipment maintenance. E. Develops and coordinates preview of simulation materials for faculty. F. Develops and disseminates simulation patient preview materials to students. G. Participates in or leads tours of simulation patient units. H. Directly supervises Nursing Simulation work study students and student aides. Departmental Functions: A. Assists with annual budgetary and grants input regarding simulation equipment, ie, maintains catalog of up-to-date simulation resource material and obtains comparative price quotes. B. Enters simulation information in computer data base. C. Tabulates evaluations for course, faculty, and learning programs. D. Serves on departmental and college committees. E. Assists in student advisement as assigned. F. Assists with recruitment efforts as requested by Chairperson. G. Provides Nursing Lab coverage during one weekend day (minimum six hours) and early evening hours (for a total of 37.5 hours per week) as needed to fulfill Department needs. H. Participates in professional and simulation development activities. I. Attends commencement and professional workshop days as defined by the College Academic Calendar. J.
