ELA Coordinator/Coach Job Description 4.17 Discovery Charter School Job Title: ELA Coordinator/Coach Reports to: School Director, Discovery Charter School (DCS) Salary & Benefits: Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications with comprehensive benefits Summary: The DCS ELA Coordinator/Coach will provide leadership and professional development to increase reading and writing achievement school-wide. The ELA Coordinator/Coach will ensure a school culture which celebrates literacy thinking and learning. Job Duties: Work closely with teachers to support outstanding reading and writing instruction (eg coaching, lesson modeling, lesson observation/feedback, collaborative lesson planning) within a context of an urban, high need, population Significant time will be dedicated to analyzing data (eg diagnosing individual student and teacher strengths and weaknesses), planning activities (eg small and large group professional development), and monitoring services/programs (eg facilitating the observation and feedback cycle) Cultivate literacy habits of mind in all students: curiosity, risk-taking, perseverance and craftsmanship Weave literacy into the grade level classroom expeditions and the life of the school Work in tandem with other coaches to maximize teacher growth Periodically teach student groups Active, dynamic, member of Leadership Cabinet Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate by the Director Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Unyielding commitment to students and the DCS Mission Excellent judgment and student-centered mindset Deep understanding of Reading and Writing CCLS Strong planning and organizational skills Willingness to take initiative Effective communication skills- need to be able to lead direct, but supportive conversations with students, families and faculty Ability to collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds effectively Recognize and maintain confidentiality in job-related matters Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree Literacy or Reading Teacher (Literacy certification preferred) Experience in a similar role or setting (eg teaching ELA at various grade levels and/or coaching) Able to work long school day and year (ie approximately 8 hour school day for 215 days) Nondiscrimination Policy Statement The Discovery Charter School values equality of opportunity, human dignity, and racial/ethnic and cultural diversity.
