Early Head Start Teacher Job Summary: The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for all aspects of care and education provided in their classroom (Infant/Toddler, Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten or School Age). The Teacher is the leader of the classroom team. The Teacher supervises the other classroom staff, providing modeling and performance feedback. The Teacher ensures that developmentally appropriate activities are provided, that appropriate assessment of children's progress is completed, and that appropriate standards or regulations are followed. Additionally, the Teacher makes sure that each child's individual needs are met. Essential Functions: Ensure that children are supervised at all times. Provide coverage in any classroom as needed to maintain ratios. Plan and provide developmentally appropriate activities and experiences to facilitate the children's development in multiple areas. Ensure that the classroom meets each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs. Ensure that child assessments and screenings are completed. Ensure that the classroom is clean and in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including state regulations, accreditation standards, Head Start/Early Head Start performance standards. Provide direct supervision to the classroom staff, including team meetings, modeling, and assisting with performance evaluation as assigned. Participate in child action team (CAT) meetings. Ensure that children are supervised at all times. Inform management about any problems, concerns, issues, emergencies, parent complaints, or equipment needs, or repairs. Implement daily lessons that are developmentally appropriate and based on each child's individual needs. Schedule and conduct home visits, individual parent-teacher conferences according to VOA schedule, communicate on a regular basis with parents/guardian to build mutual understanding and information sharing. Be knowledgeable about appropriate referral services for families and children. Follow routines daily which help children keep themselves healthy and safe and implement appropriate classroom management techniques. Provide direct supervision to the classroom staff, including team meetings, modeling, and assisting with performance evaluation as assigned. Attend meetings as needed and follow and implement the goals from, Public Schools or Early Intervention for children with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Implement strategies from the Mental Health/Behavioral Specialist for children with social-emotional or behavioral issues. Encourage parents to be involved in the program through such means as parent meetings, parent/teacher conferences, home visits, family events, parent workshops, curriculum planning, and attending field trips. Keep abreast of current theory, research and practices in the Early Childhood Education field by reading related literature, journals, magazines, etc. as well as taking coursework or attending workshop seminars annually. Early Head Start Teacher Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) for Infant/Toddler 1 year experience working with children Classroom experience (unless New York State certified) CPR and First Aid certification
