Job Purpose: Prevents, reduces, and treats alcohol and drug abuse by identifying abuse problems; designing, organizing, and coordinating services. Duties: Identifies service requirements by analyzing medical, and incident reports; conferring with people knowledgeable about the consequences of alcohol and drug abuse problems. Establishes treatment programs by setting program objectives; developing protocols; coordinating staff and facility availability. Establishes educational programs by designing and assembling resources; Promotes education and treatment by disseminating information on the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse; making information available in easily accessible ways; encouraging participation in programs. Explains education and treatment programs by presenting lectures and discussions; providing information regarding the recognition of alcohol and drug abuse symptoms and problems. Integrates information systems by coordinating records requirements. Provides program evaluation and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and treatment data and trends. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
