Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Contract Engineer : Network and Transport Ops. role is to provide technical operations for Implementation, Installation and Activation specific to NYBB Network Build:out. This will include primary support for equipment used to deliver all services including IP switches and routers, Fiber Optic knowledge and GPON applications.
This contract Engineer will report to the Network Operations Team, this position requires hands:on work with equipment, frequent interaction with Engineering, Operations, and System Operations providing support for the network projects and timely resolution of any technical issues. Maintenance window activity will be required periodically. Some travel will be required, usually within the Armstrong foot print to perform on site activation work..
RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Maintain, configure, and implement based on project specified configurations support for Core IP Network Hub Site build:out, including switches, routers, local fiber optic connectivity, .
:
Apply knowledge of IP networking principles to the production network platform.
:
Logical and analytical ability to troubleshoot technical issues reported to Operations within a timely manner.
:
Perform physical equipment installation, CLI configuration, Firmware Upgrades, physically connectivity, testing and turn:up of routing protocol on a per site level for Cisco ASR 9K, and 9xx, platforms as well as console servers and Adtran TA 5000 platforms.
:
Have fundamental working knowledge of IP network products deployed within Armstrong network, and ability to learn new technology as required. Including, BGP and OSPF Routing and MPLS.
:
Proficient PC skills and working knowledge of MS Office Applications, including Visio, word, excel. Project.
:
Must be attentive to detail, well organized, able to maintain and prioritize several projects simultaneously.
:
Be self:motivated, with ability to work independently as well as with other Network Operations team members.
:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to maintain network services and be available after hours for high level support.
:
Display strong communication skills to articulate complex problems both verbal and written to management, other departments and network vendors.
:
Complete equipment Activation, then perform test and turnup of devices on network in Maintenance window and validate NOC tools working correctly as final activation steps.
QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years experience configuring Cisco equipment, and working knowledge of IP networking, Active CCNA Certification needed.
:
Cisco IOS:XR, IOS:XE and preferably Adtran TA5000 devices, able to adapt to other device CLI as needed such as the WTI console Server CLI.
:
Hands:on work with telecommunication equipment.
:
Hands on work with fiber optic interfaces and hub site cable management
:
Capability to OTDR layer 1, as well as operate and conduct RFC1544 testing using EXFO test sets.
:
Ability to install equipment, cabling to NECA standards
:
Understanding of legacy technology like RS232 cable in:outs, V.35, DS1
:
Able to lift and maneuver equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
:
Minimum of Bachelors degree or equivalent technical education
:
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
Must provide dependable transportation and ability to transport equipment up to 3x3x4 (WxLxH)
:
Job will be performed at various locations throughout NYBB Armstrong foot print, contractor will need to travel to various locations to perform duties.
:
Provide Test Tools, such as RS:232 BoB, CAT5 Cable tests, OTDR Fiber cleaning kit, Cable making tools, small test cables, console cables, Laptops for configuration work, Telecommunication tool set.
:
Must be able to use Armstrong provided EXFO 880 test set to conduct RFC1544 testing.
