Our client, a non-profit health insurance company, is currently seeking a Medical Payment Processing Specialist for a 7 month temporary position with the opportunity for an extension. The position is located in Rochester, New York. By working for our client, you will be exposed to upstate New York's largest non-profit health plan, work in a fast paced corporate environment and be an integral part to the Finance team. The Medical Payment Processing Specialist prepares and submits reports, monitors and expedites payments, initiates claims research and maintains ongoing communications regarding credit balances and payment discrepancies. Candidate will complete preparation of bank deposit information, preparation or submission of month-end balancing information to management. Additional responsibilities include: Applies payments for payers received through both electronic ERA files and paper remittances. Works with staff within to communicate any credit balance, refund, or payment discrepancies. Accountable for batch creation of each payment and balancing of each payment to the deposited check amount. Runs reports to ensure balances from payments received are not settling to the patients unnecessarily. Posting of interest payments, bad debt encounters, and retractions as needed. Processing refunds for specific payers when payments are received in error. Consistently stays aware of payer specifics, contract and guidelines for each payer to ensure all issues are identified promptly. Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures. Performs other functions as assigned by management. Regular reliable attendance is expected and required. Job Requirements: Associates degree in Business Administration with concentration or emphasis in accounting and at least one year of related experience is preferred. In place of a degree, three years of experience with a concentration or emphasis on accounting related functions would be considered. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Capable of establishing and maintaining constructive relationships with outside professionals, patients, and all levels of staff and management. Must be diplomatic in order to deal constructively with patients regarding their account and insurance billing. Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer skills.
